At this price point it gets 5 stars.
I bought this with the matching tri-tex pants for daily low-speed commuting on a bike or scooter. I wanted to have a ’shell’ which provides wind/abrasion/rain/impact protection all in one easy-to-don layer, at a performance level sufficient for short, slow trips. I also wanted a jacket/pants combo which, if I stop somewhere on the way home, did not make me stand out like a clown at a funeral.
After using the jacket daily for a couple weeks, I am satisfied that it meets my requirements. On my way out the door in my slacks and dress shirt I grab an insulation layer appropriate to the temperature, and put on the tri-tex jacket and pants. A little rain does start to soak through the sleeves after 45 minutes, but that’s long enough for my commute. The 500 to 600 denier nylon is only single-stitched, but probably sufficient for one 30mph slide/tumble (These textile jackets are basically destroyed in a slide as they dissipate the energy through fabric separation and heating). Critically, the CE armor is positioned correctly over my joints (bought an ‘L’ and I’m 177cm); That armor positioning has been a problem on much more expensive jackets which I have ordered sight-unseen.
In summary, this jacket is a great value, and sufficient for my commute. Do not expect goretex weather performance, or aerostich crash protection for this cost. For your farther/faster trips I suggest you go to a higher price point and accept heavier, hotter, bulkier clothing. With protective gear, you generally get what you pay for.

Overall I am pleased with this jacket and would have rated it higher, but while the quality of the outer fabric is great, some of the stitching is lightweight and keeps poping open. This has never happened with the stiching used to assemble the jacket shell itself. It has happened on several of the compartments where you zip in the armor, and in several of the inner liner(not the zip-in thermal liner)seams. To be honest I question if it is really worth anything to have armor in case of a spill, when the compartment that holds the armor detaches if the jacket is folded(carefully) in a saddlebag.
But the jacket does keep me 100% dry in heavy Florida rains, and as I say, looks and fits great.

This is a nice jacket except for one flaw; a strip of cloth behind the zipper gets caught in the zipper every time. I thought I could deal with it, but it eventually bound up so bad I pulled a few zipper teeth out trying to free it. The vendor will not accept returns with tags removed. The jacket itself is nice. Cut that strip of cloth out, and the zipper works fine (even with a few teeth missing).
EDIT: A quick post mortum here. With missing teeth, the zipper now unzips itself from the middle while riding. It’s very difficult to re-engage. The local fix-it place wants $40 to sew in a new zipper. The jacket is a total loss, and went in the trash. Too bad – it was a nice jacket except for the zipper.

I originally wrote this review for the grey version of this jacket. It’s obviously the same jacket though.
I was very disappointed with this jacket, and with leatherup.
First I will say the jacket is well made and the style is good. However, the jacket is very poorly designed. I ordered a large, which was the correct size in the arm length and chest but found the jacket cut way too tight in the arm/shoulder. I’m not whispy, but neither am I a body builder, and with my arms down by my side the jacket cut into my arm pit area. Lifting my arms then cause the whole jacket to push up to my ears, because there is not enough room for the shoulder to rotate freely in the jacket. This is totally unacceptable in a motorcycle jacket which is designed to be used with the arms up. A fuller cut in the shoulder would not have change the style significantly, and would make the jacket usable.
My disappointment with leatherup as a store stems not from it’s prices, shipping, or even return policy, which were all good, but from the fact that they refused to post the above review on their website. I will not shop at any store the does not have the integrity to post the bad reviews with the good. I did wonder about that when I perused their site and saw nothing but glowing reviews for their products. So now we know why. My review could have saved someone the shipping costs (both ways) and a lot of hassle. Instead of erring on the side of good customer service, clearly they err on the side of greed.
